Liv, together with Julie Maske, who was also on the expedition the previous year, start on this occasion from the airport at Søndre Strømfjord. They become the first all-woman team to make an unsupported crossing of the Greenland icecap.
Liv led an expedition which was to have been the first all-woman expedition to cross Greenland unsupported, and without the aid of dogs. It did not turn out that way. The expedition was overtaken by a Greenland piteraq: a dry thaw wind of hurricane force.
